Around the early 70's a red headed Irishman named T J Kelly from Tampa Florida
raced a Morgan in Central Florida SCCA.

His crew was Jerry Vetvick and Craig Peroutka who eventually went on to found the King's Cars
on Waters avenue. They started with 2 rental garages with the dividing walls knocked out.

That expanded to over 20 rental garages. I still have one of their black "Kings Cars" t-shirts
and Craig Peroutka taught me a lot about suspensions as he and Vetvick raced a "prodified"
Triumph TR4 and later a formula Ford. I fabricated some aluminum parts and worked on unusual
projects for them as I was becoming a multi time autocross Florida State Champion.


Craig Peroutka became a crew chief at Indianapolis and worked for Chaparral, developed a formula V that was designed in a wind tunnel at Cornell University, with Billy McConnell. Craig Peroutka now
works for Craig Ross of Tampa Florida in Vintage car racing with a rare Mustang.


Jerry Vetvick had a cow come through the windshield of his Porsche one night on the way home
and that was the last ride for both Jerry and the cow.

TJ Kelly went unbelievably deep into the first turn at Daytona at the SCCA Paul Whiteman races one year. It was because the gauges would fall out of the dash and stick behind the brake pedal. Saving every smidgen of weight by leaving off the gauge brackets made the car go faster.
Removing the ash frame and replacing it with plywood saved even more weight.

SCCA had no rules about wooden car frames......
