Reality is that "needs backpressure" is an excuse for poor header/exhaust design.

Header design used to be so bad that when a magazine was testing a header from
an advertiser, the magazine would always make two or more changes in addition to
new headers, that way readers could see SOME KIND of a horsepower change
and the magazine would not lose the advertising revenue.
