SouthernMaine I just this minute remembered: I ran into a friend l hadn't seen for awhile. He was living in a different town collecting anti-gun signatures at the supermarket about 2 blocks from my home.
He already knew what happened at my house so didn't blame me for not signing, but still was firmly anti-gun. Soon afterwards HIS home was invaded --- and like l did, back in 1977 when my apartment was invaded in the town where he was now living --- he bought his first gun! I was now able to tell him he needed to learn how to use it, and practice with it, just to be able to use it, and also check the laws about using it. Not ironically, while that anti-gun ballot failed, and Maine now allows any citizen to purchase a gun, no strings attached, the laws on using a gun have become ridiculous.
Speaking of "you never know," a woman was killed at that supermarket not long ago, throat slit by a young female stranger while standing in the frozen food aisle. Someone jumped on the female with the knife, too late to save the older woman's life, but at least the attacker was caught. The attacker said she didn't know the woman she murdered, nor why she killed her.
