Thank you very much mattpalm for this upload. I always loved this movie and not sure if Netflix has it in stock...I read the novelization in class as required reading...Such fantastic characters. I know I may have felt like Patty did at the time. I wonder why her father was such a hard-ass in the story? Michael Constantine did a great job portraying the Southern gentleman role of the 40s but he forbid Patty from hanging out with Freddy because he was not of the same social class. Sharon is apparently his favorite. Poor girl, no wonder she felt alone and lonely.
Then Mr. Bergen disowns her for harboring a fugitive POW. Who also happened to be the best friend she ever had. It could have been more than friendship had Anton not been on the lam. Sad, the way the small-town folk looked at her with scorn. I have to realize that this was just the culture of the times. Ruth was a great lady more nurturing than her real mother. Outstanding story altogether.
