I have been blessed to have owned 23 Porsches over the last 40+ years. 1 or more of most every model. Each one had their own wonderful characteristics as well as pitfalls. The early air cooled ones were pure simplicity and fun to drive and way ahead of other sports cars @ the time.
The 550 Spyder had incredible power to weight ratio and you were always riding on the edge of the envelope between speed, handling and losing traction/changing direction, especially with the tire technology in those days.
Even the 914 when it came out had 4 wheel discs, a targa top, 5 speed trans and fuel injection which few other sports cars had at the time. The 928's were larger, more comfortable and loaded with creature comforts but would cruise the autobahn at supercar speeds all day long. I presently am driving a Boxster which evokes memories of both the 550 and 914. The only thing I can say is that I wish I still had each and every one.
