If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always have what you have always had. Progress can come one tiny element at a time, or it can come through a tremendous paradigm shift. But both of those require one thing first: the willingness to change. When college football scouts go looking for talent, one of the elements they seek is “coachability” … will the player accept coaching and new ideas?
The same is true of firearms training. Just because your father taught you something about guns does not mean you are ready to fight. Training and tactics have changed over the years. Do you remember the FBI Crouch or the Speed Rock?
At a recent firearms training class, the instructor put it very well: Firearms training offers us decades of tradition unimpeded by progress. But over those years, many people have learned better ways of doing things. If you are introduced to some of those better ways, be willing to adopt them. I’m not telling you to blindly follow every crackpot with an opinion. Be skeptical, but also be open to change. You might find out there is a much better way.
Be Willing to Learn
We go to training to learn things, not to show people how much we already know. Look for new and better ways to do things.
