Juan Pablo Montoya was full of praise following Tuesday's road couse aero kit test at Mid-Ohio.
"You slide around a little bit and it was cool. It made it fun to drive," the two-time Indianapolis 500 winner said after he and Oriol Servia ran over 200 laps around the 13-turn, 2.2-mile road course in the first test of the 2018 road racing bodywork for IndyCar.
"You can throw it in the corner and get on the gas hard and I like it because you can drive the &%$# out of it and I had a good time."
Montoya, testing for Chevrolet with Team Penske, also said he and Servia, running in a Honda prepared by Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, were able to run a little closer in a 20-lap segment.
"You're always going to have understeer following somebody close into the corner; that's just inherent in motorsports, but it was easier today because the rear end wasn't as nervous. The braking zone is a little longer now and we're going quicker down the straightaway so it's all good.
"I think we're going in the right direction."
Jay Frye, president of competition for IndyCar, was also pleased.
"The car looks good, fast and racy," said Frye. "Both drivers said they had a blast and that's a good sign. I went into Turns 4-5-6 and the cars were sliding and you could hear the tires squealing a little but everything was under control.
"They ran multiple, long runs and and the times were only about a second off of last Sunday's race pace so that's not bad for the first time. It was another box checked and another good day."
Tuesday's test was the second of four scheduled and run by IndyCar following the oval test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last week. Upcoming tests are schedule for Iowa Speedway (Aug. 10) and Sebring International Raceway (Sept. 26).
