He never won a World championship, he only won six Grand Prix. But Gilles Villeneuve was about so much more than mere statistics, he seemingly never failed to be spectacular. He didn't need umpteen pieces of tin to prove he was the best, everyone just KNEW it.
Apparently even the Old Man became emotionally attached to Gilles, something that Enzo NEVER usually did. Part of the sport's legacy died with Senna at Imola; a huge chunk of its heart and soul died with Gilles at Zolder 12 years earlier.
