part 2
But whether it's built in-house by Long Road Racing, or a custom-made package installed elsewhere, the result will be the same: an MX-5 that truly gives its owner the driving experience they desire.
CUSTOM PERFORMANCE Long Road Racing principal Glenn Long's own wish list for his perfect road MX-5 resulted in the car used for our photo shoot. Upgrades include a throaty performance exhaust, stiff springs with appropriately tuned shocks, Wilwood brakes and Long Road Racing anti-roll bars front and rear. It also features shock tower braces, including the same front brace used on the Global MX-5 Cup car.
100 AND COUNTING
As expected, the ability to purchase a ready-to-race car from Mazda Motorsports has proven very popular.
That car, the Global MX-5 Cup car built by Long Road Racing, has not only found a home with teams racing in the MX-5 Cup, but many others as well, with more than 100 already sold.
Entries in the 2016 Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich Tires averaged a very healthy 35-40 cars, with grids expected to remain buoyant in '17.
Other customers have bought the car to compete in club racing – it fits into a variety of SCCA and NASA classes – while some have purchased a Global MX-5 Cup car to use for track days.
In fact, some motorsports country clubs are providing fleets of the cars for their members' use and enjoyment, and the 100th Global MX-5 Cup car was delivered to New York's Monticello Motor Club.
