That might be what they were trying to imply. We will wipe ourselves out that is for sure. Then our replacements may have just enough time to evolve, develop intelligence enough to Copy what we leave behind, and leave earth in search of a new home. Just think how excited our replacements will be when they go to the moon for the first time. They’ll find our moon buggy from the Apollo days parked, “with the keys still in it.”

Every discovery will motivate them that much more, and they will make it off Earth where we could not. They would be more motivated to leave. Some day they may even forget where they came from. Accidentally wonder back like they did in this film. They rediscovered their roots.
