I really had no idea that USA had the same affection for this car as we do in UK. I lived for many years in Mexico, and often walked past huge car pounds, full of green and white former taxis, that had been forcibly delicensed due to strict (but very necessary) emissions legislation. I often wondered if I could buy them all and ship them to UK where they would be loved.(after having the steering wheel put on the correct side). Alas the Mexican government have deemed the poor little Vochito too harmful to the air to allow them to survive. Although the now much more affluent Mexicans treasure these cars and many spend a fortune restoring and customising them. I remember my first ride in a Mexican Vocho taxi. The guy could turn the steering wheel almost a whole turn before it would actually move the front wheels. Fortunately most roads in DF are straight. I surmised that this car had hardly received any maintenance over its approximate 20 year life, yet it still went. I was not too sure it would actually stop however, so shortened my journey. I miss Mexico, Mexicans and Vochos.
