When the Ferrari 458 Italia debuted it represented not only the latest in a long line of compact Berlinettas and Spiders of mid-engine design, but the highest evolution of Ferrari’s technical might that took a giant leap forward in the 360 Modena. Weighing in at 3,490 pounds, the 458’s mid-mounted 4.5L V-8 employed direct fuel injection - a first for a mid-engined Ferrari – to produce 562 HP at a screaming 9,000 RPM and 398 lb-ft of torque at 6,000, with fully 80 percent of that all in at 3,250 RPM. Working through a dual clutch 7-speed Getrag transmission, the DOHC V-8 takes the 458 to a top speed of 202 MPH.
