Tanks played much minor role in WW2 than people are thinking. For instance Germans invested 6 times more on aircraft production than for armour (including assault and SP guns). How much did powers invest to land warfare? Germans 30-32%, western allied 20-25% and Japanese just about 15%. Not much compared to hype of tanks and land warfare. The war was not won by land battles but by western allied air and sea power.
