At one time in the early days, the driver was better than the cars.
As cars became more sophisticated and tuneable, the car became better than the driver.
Everyone has said at one time: "I know I could do better if I had a good car".
Maybe we will get a chance to see soon if that applies in this particular case.
I recall when wealthy racers from foreign countries, Japan for instance, would buy a ride in the prestigious Daytona 24
and wealthy South Americans would buy a car for one race at Sebring.....and sometimes put up
more money than a particular car could win....maybe as a way of resume building.
If you had a driver with a sponsor who could put more money into your racing team than you would be able
to win, IF you won, I suspect most people would look at the numbers.
Everything has to pay for itself.
