My late husband grew up in the Fifties and was never a movie fan . Not many actors got his attention. James Garner did. My husband was a very athletic, tough, strong man, but at the same time, sweet and tender without being a shirker or complainer. He just got the job done without fanfare. He had nothing to prove and had no false bravado. I think he saw and admired those traits in Garner.
