While I agree with the sentiment that most governments are corrupt and mismanage our tax dollars, which, of course, leads us to not trust them when they say they need more of our hard earned money, I should remind the rest of those who say they give 10 per cent to Jesus that the original welfare movement actually started in Christian organizations in the U.S. who wanted to help those who were overcome by true poverty that was beyond their means to control - Depression induced and all that. Perhaps if more of us acted the way those in that movement acted and help the poor out of our own pockets (the early church was actually socialistic, as a movement of the Holy Spirit - everyone brought together their properties and sold them and the profit from that sale was divided up amongst everyone...), there would be no NEED for a government administrated welfare program...just a thought...when we give out of the goodness of our hearts and at the leadership of God's Spirit, there seems to be some kind of personal interaction that motivates recipients into taking steps to improve their lifestyles and move forward, instead of looking at what they get as their "due" as seen in many welfare mentality social groups...
