Given the precision driving characteristics intrinsic with Porsche’s crested sports cars, you’d expect the company to manufacture said vehicles in the same measured and disciplined way. And you’d be right. This recent video takes a look behind the scenes on the production line of Porsche’s vaunted hypercar – the 918 Spyder – specifically chassis #904. It’s quite a sight to behold.
Saying that everything is “hand-built” would be an epic understatement. The video showcases Porsche factory workers diligently hand-stitching and shaping leather interior components, threading and tightening every single nut and bolt on the engine, and even mating the car’s V8 powerplant and chassis with minimal robotic assistance.

Then there’s the noise, or lack thereof. Despite the fact that hundreds of people are cranking and piecing together an 887-horsepower Porsche hypercar under one roof, you’re more apt to overhear a squeaky shoe than the zip-zip of a screwdriver. And though we wouldn’t try it, Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory looks eat-off-the-floor clean.
Sure, the 918 has since sold out – you can’t have one. But to the lucky owner of chassis #904, worry not, it looks like yours was put together with plenty of care.
