I agree, with the addition that an autocross school the day before may give
them some knowledge instead of just going out cold and grinding off some tire
rubber. Maybe the bit of knowledge from the school will give them a good
foundation to enjoy the next days autocross even more.

Honestly I think everyone should give Autocross a go first.
It's a cheaper, safer, and still challenging way to find out what the limits of you and your car are capable of.
You can hone a lot of handling skills as well without having to worry about people behind or in front of you.
