Old Camry needs hard to find tires. Where might I find some?
Hey,
I have a 20 year old Camry and I've been looking for for a decent set of used tires for it. I'd love to find a full set of 4 but I will go matching pair for the front and matching pair for the back if I have to.
Toyota specs for call for 195/70/14, but I figure I can go 185-205/65-70/14 depending what's out there and available as long as the size matches on all 4.
Any suggestions on where to look for these? Used 14s are a bitch to find. In the last week or so I have had four stores tell me they had them.
One of them had a set of four that had BADDDDDD dry rot and of course, when I said they were rotten they tried to sell me a new set at a real high price. (sigh).
And the other three stores pulled the ol,' "Shit bro, I just sold those 14s I had like10 minutes ago and I feel bad. I'll give you a great price on a new set." (double sigh).
And all three stores were selling Chinese "BCS" tires. Yeah, the price was decent BUT it felt like you could shove a goddam toothpick through the sidewalls. (triple sigh)
Do any of you guys see any problems of going outside the specs as long as all four tires are the same size? Looks like I may have to do it. Good used 195/70/14s are proving real hard to come by.
Thanks,
Mickey
