^^ I didn't bring my tripod to this event, but I have in the past at similar events. If you're close to your subject, shooting at a very wide aperture [generally below f/2.8], and want to make sure you nail the focus, I would recommend a tripod in any lighting condition. If you or your camera accidentally moves in any direction just half a centimeter before you press the shutter button, your subject will most likely be out of focus.
