I really dont see how milling your heads down alone could ever produce this kind of compression ratio. He would have to have flycut domed pistons as well...and even then. Lemme guess he runs it on pump gas too. Is this the Mustang with 2 reverse gears? If all he is running is 10s with that wonder setup he has issues. There are 10.5 tire class cars running faster with less compression and as anyone will tell you compression alone does not make your car fast.
Anyway I lumped the Auburn bearings and ring and pinion together since the metal shavings from the old spider gears funked up the whole shooting match.
As for your 1.6 60 foot times with slicks...this is no big feat. I am merely .1 second off of your time with drag radials mounted on 17 wheels. Did I mention that the car I did this with is a 99 Cobra convertable with road race suspension and a solid rear axle conversion? Imagine that car with slicks. All you are doing with slicks on your stock suspension is hurting your car if you havent already. At my last place of employment (Race Related) I have seen many people who have done what you did. Common issues were:
dents in roof and 1/4 panel caused by body flex
torn lower torque boxes
demolished upper control arm mounting points
tears in floorboard
body so warped and twisted subframes couldnt be installed properly
Every Mustang I have ever built personally (wether it be mine or family) had fully built and properly built suspension and reinforcements before it was beat on. If you actually took the time to reinforce and build your suspension then disregard this.
O.k. This is going to be long but I am going to have to pick apart your post a little so here we go:
1. I did not state that my friends car only had the heads milled of course he has different pistons and other things to say the least. I dont know nor really care what others run and most of the REAL racers will always tell you a little less on the compression than they are really running. And of course he is not on pump gas. I have teased him that if his compression goes any higher he will need glow plugs! We ran 17:1 compression in our 800+ H.P. Ford powered sprint cars years ago so compression is power !
2. My friends car only runs low 10s because of the class that he is in and the restrictions on the type of heads / intake he can use and the weight of the vehicle among other things. He won his class in Fun Ford Weekend series last year so trust me he knows his shit. If he did not have these restrictions he would of course run much faster than 10s ! I know what the cars run in all of the various classes but dont think for a minute that you nor I know exactly what any of the cars run for compression because everyone lies when it comes to exact set-ups. I know compression does not make your car fast. This is obvious by the lower compression blower / turbo cars. Dont worry I have been in the Mustang scene for a long time so you dont have to give me chapter and verse on any of this. I dont post bullshit topics or responses I just post what I know or have a fairly good idea on. I have probably been doing this longer than most of the people here. That does not mean in any way I know everything because I dont nor that it is in any way a slam towards anyone else here.
3. As far as my 60ft times. From the feedback I have received from others the 1.60 60ft times on a bone stock suspension seems to be better than most. I have laid to rest many of my friends cars 60ft. times with far more suspension work than mine so I am happy with my accomplishment! I am glad to hear that you are in the 1.7 range with your Cobra. Which is a better platform than my 1990 so we are not comparing apples to apples here especially if you have different suspension components. As far as damaging the car goes. I have not damaged the car whatsoever. Why ? Quit simply. I put some of the thickest sub-frame connectors on that I have ever seen but nothing else. Am I lucky I have not flexed the car in the areas you mentioned ? Perhaps but it hasnt happened. No flex in the frame no 1/4 windows that no longer fit no torn torque boxes etc. etc... But am I going to reinforce all of this when the new suspension goes in ? Absolutley ! I will reinforce the car in places that most people do not usually consider plus all of the normal areas like under the rear seats torque boxed etc. etc..
So why did you lash out ? Or am I just taking your post the wrong way ? I Dont quite understand what I did to rile you up. I want the Ford forum to grow and let everyone learn from each other not start pissing matches.
It seems to me that everyone has something to learn once and a while.
Peace
