I tried all combinations of gaskets and orings when the yellow car has less than a good tune on it. plus tried more combos on customers cars. the best combination is a composite felpro with the head oringed.
nothing stops head flex between studs during detonation. normal combustion produces 2000psi at 15 degrees ATDC. detonation is 4000psi at TDC.
metal gaskets do not seal better in any way. they simply survive longer after head flex. composite material blows away easy so you will be lucky if you can drive home after head lift. the metal will survive much longer and likely just have small leak after lift. very drivable but gasket still needs to be changed.
I used ss ring on mls gasket with oring in the block. .011 protrusion. I would prolly try .015 if installing in head cause its just gonna push way in.
cometic blew far easier than mls when i tried them
two more reasons i dont like mls gaskets. 1 cost. 2 block and head have to be perfectly flat and very smooth. composite is much more forgiving. perfectlyflat perfectly smooth doesnt last long.
