Here I am Harold.
I dont post very much because I am on the road most of the time. I get on the net for a few mins between loads to check emails, forum posts and such. But really dont have the time like I used to. That and no one here to really argue with and not have things blow up out of proportion.
I think the lure of the LSx motors (At least for me) has more to do with affordability, availability, and the currently available aftermarket support for these motors.
I have nothing against the 302 or 351. I am personally bored with the 302. We know the limitations, the HP numbers, there is nothing left to argue. The 351 is still a great base from which to build a motor. But good blocks will become harder to find and as a result prices will go up.
The LSx motors are making decent numbers in stock form. You can see another 75 - 100 hp from just cam and headers provided you have a supporting valve train. The simplicity and cost is what made me go the LSx route. Be realistic,.. how much money (From scratch) does it take to get a 351 to put down an honest 400 rwhp? How much to get an LS1 or LQ4/9 to do the same? LQ4/9 is probably the most cost effective way to see an honest 400 rwhp right now.
An LS1 with cam and headers only will best anything you can do with an iron headed 302 in NA form. Apples and oranges sure. But this is the argument Harold asked for.
