I've got a mint condition 1988 Rx-7 GXL. Blue, mint condition. No scratches, no dents. It looks like it's never seen a drop of water. ~78,000 miles, 5 speed, all stock parts, no mods. Interior is immaculate. How much is it worth if I wanted to sell it to somebody?
A 2nd gen S1FC in good condition is worth around 800-1500.
Pros
1. GXL - Power everything +1
2. OEM - No replacement parts or manufactured parts. +1
3. Interior - 10/10. Very hard to find. If it's all original and 10/10 this could be a plus. If it's a 2+2 even better
4. 78k miles is pretty low for a 88. Hopefully the clutch has been replaced within the last few years.
Cons:
1. 90% Sure it has a S1FC 13b engine in it. Which means it only has around 150hp at the crank IIRC.
2. 5spd lowers the value of the vehicle. Not really a bad thing being that most people today want one with a manual. So this won't effect you.
3. 78k without any receipts to prove you did any maintenance to the engine is not a good thing.
Some questions I would ask if I was buying.
1. Has the water pump been replaced ?
2. Has the oil pump been replaced ?
3. Has the fuel pump been replaced ?
4. Does it have A/C and heat ?
5. Have you flushed the brake system?
6. Have you flushed the coolant and replaced it with factory OEM coolant?
7. Do you have any receipts for anything and everything you claim has been done to the vehicle
8. Has the car been in any accidents in it's past that you know of and with you?
9. When was the last time you did a compression test? Can we do one now?
Now being that it's a 88 S1FC13B and it was in immaculate condition with a new clutch, A/C working, yadda yadda yadda and in pristine condition and you were asking $3000 dollars the most I would offer you would be $2000.00 dollars. It's too old and has the old style engine in it. S1FC's were also prone to a lot of cold solder problems especially in GXL models. Not saying yours has those problems, but $3000 is a lot IMO. Put your offer high. More than what you want for it and if some one talks you down(low balls you) and it's near what you were asking take the offer..
Some one once told me he told a guy " I'm not here to buy your heart, I'm here to buy the car" We put high value into our cars that we take good care of and put a lot of blood sweat and tears into. So try not asking to high of a price. If you aren't desperate to sell then put a high price on it and see what happens.
