^ it is illegal to drive without a hood because it is a road hazard and/or faulty equipment. IE you drive 30 miles to the mall... youre engine is hot... you park at mall... kid sticks hand in engine... you get sued.
But like most ^ guys said. Not really enforced, and just explain the situation.
