they all have the same dot approval, some are just form fitting for coneheads, and others are padded to break in. helmetwise.
as for riding pants, more then likely unless your wearing leather you'll get a lil rash. not much but a lil.

its better then nothing. you don't have to spend a ton of money to be protected. i think the HJC helmet on my head is safer then your expensive helmet strapped to the back of your bike squid
