Lightbulb I'm glad to see someone starting their own business........

I'm glad to see someone starting their own business.
If we work for someone else, they keep the point spread between what they pay us (usually per hour)
and what they charge the customer. (A flat rate per job).

Some steps:

1. https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/faq.php

2. Tampa Racing - Registration

Best to sign up with email.

When You pick a screen name, "Full Detail Automotive" sounds good to me.
That way each time you post, you get your business name at the bottom of each post.
You can use whatever you want, though. In my case I picked Senor Honda.
(something I was known by)

When you make your profile, you might use "Full Detail Automotive" without quotes as a signature.
That way each time you post, you get your business name at the bottom of each post.
You can use whatever you want, though. There are signature guidelines.

These at bottom left pretty much explain what needs to be done next.

Reading and Posting Messages

Here is a forum name that you can post in. I will get rid of the 3-line post that I just made there,
once you start posting stuff for your business. Whatever you want to post that makes you look good,
an introduction, stuff about your company, pictures, how to's, cars you have done, whatever makes you look good.

You can stop by our 2nd Saturday free breakfast, and I can also post a reminder and
pics of last month on your forum each month same as I do for others. I will hold off on the
2nd Saturday postings until you get a few things up that you want to post. We sometimes have
another detail shop stop by, but not every time.

Some people use the TampaRacing Calendar of events and facebook as a way to become better known
by visiting and passing out cards, or putting them on windshields or passing out flyers.

If you want to test something before you post in your shop forum,
you can test-post it here and edit/delete it so you don't have to experiment by posting it in your forum.

I will open a thread for you. If you have a name for the thread other than your company name, let me know.

Let me know what I can do to help, or if you can't find something.
-Bob

PM ME to be listed here in the official list all of the local Automotive DETAILING providers. This mean, if you are an independent detailer / own your own detail business / mobile detailer - PM me and I will add you to this thread
This Subforum has been needing an update so here are the rules in order to maintain, organize and update this subforum.

1. There will be only ONE MAIN THREAD that will be stickied that will list all of the local Autobody PAINT Providers. This means, if you are a body man / painter / mobile paint-repair / shop owner - PM Me and I will input your information in the MAIN thread. HERE

2. There will be only ONE MAIN THREAD that will be stickied that will list all of the local Automotive DETAILING providers. This mean, if you are an independent detailer / own your own detail business / mobile detailer - PM Me and I will input your information in the MAIN thread. HERE

3. There will be only ONE MAIN THREAD that will be stickied that will list all of the local POWDERCOATING Providers. This means, if you are a independent / shop owner - PM Me and I will input your information in the MAIN thread. HERE

ZERO tolerance regarding spamming the forum with "services" ("PM me for $200 dollar complete paint job") or ("$50 dollar detail") - any such thread WILL be deleted immediately -

4. INQUIRIES - questions like "How much can I get my 99 Civic painted?" is WAAAAY too open ended and other than your flat rate places like ECONO / MAACO ect that will paint your car for $199, the vehicle would need to be seen (preferably in person) in order to give an accurate estimate. Anyone can say, I'll paint it for $500 plus materials but that again rings that "you get what you paid for" bell.

5. EXPECTATION - When you are inquiring about a paint job, there are MANY factors that effect the pricing / estimating of the job:
a.) Size of job (spoiler, mirror, front end, complete car, full paint incl. door jambs engine bay ect)

b1.) Materials (Prep materials inc - Sand paper, Plastic overspray cover, Paper, Tape, Jamb tape, Trim/lift tape, ect)
b2.) Chemicals (prep wipe, adhesion promoter, thinner, reducers, hardeners)
b3.) Paint Type (Single stage, Base Coat/Clearcoat, Three-Stage, Candy, Chameleon)
b4.) Paint Color (REDS,YELLOWS,ORANGES,PEARLS are typically 2-3 times expensive than BLACKS, BLUES, SILVERS ect)
b5.) Clear Coat (can range from basic non-UV 1-2 coats brand to quality Glamour UV 3-5 coats)

c.) Repairs (scratches, dings, dents, minor collision, major collision (require use of industrial frame machines ect)

d.) WetSand and Buff (usually NOT standard unless there are some minor imperfections ie dirt specs, runs)

all of the above mentioned needs to be taken into account when an estimate is given/taken.

Again, Anyone can say "Just bring me the car and I will do it for X amount of dollars" = JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING IN WRITING - PROTECT YOURSELVES - I know dozens of "joes" out there with a paint gun and a compressor and think they can FOOSE out your ride but they either a.)come up with the need of more money or else OR b.) will take your money and give you a crappy job that will require DOUBLE what a regular shop would charge you because now they have to sand through the crap and fix runs, crappy bodywork ect......
Ask for references / pictures / proof...ect....

MORE TO COME.....
