They should both bolt up to the b series block. The difference between them is that the da half shaft has a female end and the newer half shaft have a male end. Make sure both are b series halfshafts. Hammer shouldnt be needed if the axle is already off the shafts. It should slide right in (all the way in the tranny) and line up with the the 3 hole in the back of the block
