My name is Joseph Davis, I'm an all around asshat, postwhore, and loudmouth. You may or may not recognize my name if you frequent HT's FI forum, PGMFI.org, ECIMULTI.org, engine management forum mod on homemadeturbo.com, or any of a number of various DIY mailing lists.
I am a long time advocate of self improvement, knowledge, and doing it your own damn self. I prefer using OEM parts as they possess the one thing the aftermarket is completely devoid of - OEM quality.
A good case in point is Hyundaidata vs AEM's EMS. (Ideally) Both are computers and do as they are programmed... AEM has a few more input/outputs to do interesting things with, BUT. Hyundaidata is the Honda ECU, 97% of the code is OEM Honda code. The hardware is bulletproof and the code is proven. EMS shits the bed on a regular basis, it's getting better all the time but it's never going to be OEM quality. Honda would never do their hardware beta testing on the general public, yet people jock AEM for their product solely because of the pricetag, and think EMS>Honda.
Here's a picture of my kid holding my boost controller. It's an OEM Saab piece, modified by yours truly for various boost levels, scramble boost, and I have plans for an add-on board for traction control. Most likely PIC based, monitoring ABS wheelspeed sensor inputs.
FYI, I'm 28 so I'm a few years older than the average Honduh enthusiast. It's given me time to do all sorts of amusing things. I have a couple two year degrees - automotive, CNC machining - and a half dozen unfinished 2 and 4 year degrees - EE, chemistry, programming, networking, and yes welding. Over 9 years of post-secondary waste of time; I'll never get a degree or a real job as I'm too consumed by my hobbies.
