The point is...Lesson 1 for newb's messing with timing

.. if you have to pull distributor out... mark it.. dont spin motor unless distributor is back in. This saves you drama.
Lesson 2.. to set rockers that are adjustable you cant just throw them on and tighten them down. Especially when you cant even spin the engine over properly. Go to Sears and buy yourself the proper socket, extension, and ratchet to do the job. The money your saving not paying a shop should more than cover the basic tools your lacking. Then you setup rockers one cylinder at a time. Spinning engine over. Adjust as follows, spin engine when intake rocker opns then closes, adjust your exhuast rocker to zero lash plus .5 turn. Spin engine.. when exhuast rockers cracks open the exhuast valve, adjust intake rocker to zero plus .5 turn. Lock down the allen adjuster on both. Go to next cylinder.
I built up my tool box doing work myself. You have to get over buying needed tools for the job, and dont scimp.. soon you'll be able and tackle any job.
If your broke.. then you shouldnt take on jobs that you know you dont have the tools to cover.
