Seeing this as a black guy beating up a white guy, as opposed to a douche bag beating up an innocent titty bar patron, is why there's racism. Even if it was the other way around (white guy whooping on a black patron), looking at it that way would still lead it to being a race issue.

Morgan Freeman talked about this on 60 Minutes. He said he hates Black History month because all it does is bring light to the fact that black people are somehow inherently different than whites, which just isn't true.
