5 quarts of oil for a single cam change? I am not sure about your engine building techniques. I personally wouldn't put my built head onto the pavement before installing or install a freshly built block into the car before putting the head on. much easier to do it while it is out of the car and you can check that everything is in spec and ready to go.

anyway. you did a lot of work. i understand what its like to put so much in and see it end and almost come to an end.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
