The name of a driver who died Saturday night after a crash at Wood Street and El Portal Drive was released tonight, Tampa police said.

Jason D. Plummer, 31, of Tampa, died after the two-vehicle crash just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Plummer was driving a green 1992 Honda Civic that was heading south on El Portal.

The driver of the 1997 green Cadillac SLS was Charlotte Sowards, 18, of Tampa.

Sowards was heading west on Wood Street. At the intersection of Wood Street and El Portal Drive, she crashed into Plummer's Civic, police said.

Plummer died at the scene of the crash. The four passengers in his vehicle suffered serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals.

The passengers were identified as Jean Flores, 17; Anthony Adams, 22; Daniella Campo, 15; and Alexandria Symbolis, 16. All live in Tampa.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
