It wasn't an issue with the tune...I whole heartedly trust the man who did the tuning on the car.

The failure (at least with the piston) was a result of the sump pump set up on the fuel system. The sadle design of the tank on the X most likely resulted in fuel being slosed away from the pump (only about an 1/8 of a tank of sunoco 117 in the car at the time). The momentary lack of fuel at 8500rpm's is what more than likely caused the problem.

I'm a bit dumb on the issue but that is how it was explained to me.
