Does anyone know if the ECU in a 01 cvpi will cut off the engind if the oil pressure fails?

I was driving along noticed my oil pressure gauge bottomed out, checked it , had oil. Figured the gauge must have broke since after cycling the ignition a few times it returned to normal. AS i continued on my way i herd an odd ticking noise and suddenly the car shut off. whats odd was after it cooled off it started right back up again but with an aweful noise coming from the passenger side valve cover, (figure its the timing chain havent got it open yet). But the oil gague still reads 0 or normal depending on its mood and the car will only run till warm.
