It doesn't hurt to go lower if possible, thats always 100% better than going higher, even if you are sure there is no short in the system at all.... you never know what can happen

better to be safe than sorry. A little fuse is cheaper than all of your equipment. I have fuses on almost every wire in my car that carries any kind of current, wires which have to do with the system and anything else electrical I had installed.
