It wouldn't take an obscene amount. You can get a great condition Supra for under 15K, and an LS1 and T56 for $3K. You won't have fitment problems with the shorter motor, so the steering rack and hood are good to go, and with an LS motor, you have your choice of front or rear sump. You also won't have to upgrade the fuel, rear end, or radiator. In fact, the WP inlet and outlet are in roughly the same position. It's doable for $20K easily if you do the work yourself, and you can pick up maybe $2K selling off the old engine and tranny.
LS MKIV Supras have been done. I think there are 2-3 out there, as well as old iron block Chevy swaps into them.
