dont, i repeat, DO NOT get into the automotive mechanics field. it SUCKS dude. if you must sit in a shop all day and sweat and get burnt take up welding, and learn how to weld all types of metals. your work will be a lot more stable and you will bring in more money.
unless you plan on getting real serious and wanna get certs for high end cars, dont even bother.
The money is there in welding for sure! My friend finished this program and got a job less then 2 weeks after he finished and is making $30 an hour now. Not bad for free school and 16 weeks of experience!
