Anyway, I wouldn't recommend beating the piss out of it from the start, but driving it with an egg under your foot for the first 5k miles or whatever is also overkill. With new advances in ring technology, many rings are seated to the bore when you are hand turning the engine over checking bearing clearances and installing the pistons. Bearings are the same way. Usually take it easy for the first 200 miles and you'll be fine. Hell, my motor I just ran off the wastegate (8psi) for the first few hundred miles, kept it below 5500 RPM, and it stopped smoking and has 170psi on all cylinders now.
