There is no and will never be a replacement for displacement. The fact that a "1.3l" can put out 900 horsepower is amazing... but the cost to get 400 horse outta it and keep the reliability and DD the thing is brutal and expensive. Turbos the only cost effective way to do so. V8, very easy/cheap to get 400whp and maintain reliability and DD and this is without a turbo. Add turbo to built V8 and bye bye ported turbo rotary. Toss v8 in tin can and watch out ER!!!! So many options, much more support, much cheaper, but then again, ive never built a "high performance" rotary... so maybe everyone is assuming what they dont know and the real triangle guys are laughing about the best kept secrets in the industry?
