I thought the MIVEC was mitsu's own version of gasoline direct injection... had superior tumbling effect in the cylinders and allowed for ultralean burn during low throttle/cruising conditions and also allowed for super mega good fuel economy considering the displacemnt and power of the motor.
I agree with his description, it's direct injection, I don't remember how it works as it's been a long time since I read the article, but it's a very different way of injecting fuel that leads to at least a 10% increase in power and fuel economy. Several car companies have it in other markets, but our fuel has unacceptable levels of some contaminant that messes up the current generation... I think I'll research this again when I wake up in the morning, now I'm curious.
