Blown rings....questions, and new motor build ideas inside.
Well Anthony helped me diagnose that my rings are blown. 120ish valve psi and not holding for crap.
How long can I keep a motor going with blown rings? Its burning a lot of oil, but Im keeping it topped off. I rarely drive it, but it is our only car for the next week until the cobra gets here.
If I am going to rebuild the motor, Id like to keep it budget friendly, but have a fun motor. I am pretty sure I would like to do a 331. Not sure on the compression, as I would like to throw a small shot or boost on it down the road. Would 10:1 be sufficient for DD, but low enough for boost/spray?
I am going to try to budget this by spending money on the right things the first time. What should I reuse from my motor?
Any ideas please shoot them at me. This car is mainly going to be a weekend car, drag strip occasionally, with hopefully AC. It will be on a manual car.
Please help me out and shoot a few ways to keep this as budget friendly as possible, but done right. Machine shops and number are a plus.
