Yeppers, It was a 75 Celica GT basket case I picked up for about $150.
Fortunately my family owned an auto parts store, speed shop and machine shop where we built everything from dragsters to hot rods so I had some good facilties to make it quite the little monster.
It had a 20R motor I majorly ported and bored .040 over, had 10.5 to 1 custom wiseco pistons, the most radical crane cam that was available for it, edelbrock high flow four barrel intake and holley 400 CFM carb, hooker headers, and 2.5 inch exhaust all the way to the back.
The GT had a big front sway bar but none in the rear so I managed to make a modified front sway from a mustang work on the rear 5 link suspension and cut about 1/3rd of a coil out of the springs to stiffen her up a bit and drop it a little. Also upgraded to the best gabriel gas charged struts and shocks that were available for her too. Also found some great carol shelby mags that fit it perfectly.
That little beast could kick the shit out of most of the modified muscle cars running around daytona back in the day and would easily break the tires loose just by getting on it in either first or second gear.
Here are some more pics of my first beastie. I eventually sold it to a friend so I could buy a sportbike and he completely destroyed it within a year or two and eventually parted it out. I think the engine ended up in some cool 4x4 mudding-bogger I believe. I still wish I had it, really regret getting rid of my first major project car like I did.
