Is it normal for relays to get hot to the touch while running? The last one shorted out and melted the lower housing(after working for about 4years), possibly from water getting to it? ( I clean my engine bay pretty often)
Scared I'm missing something.
It is normal for them to heat up during use. The more current you put through them, the hotter they get. In free air at ambient temp, a blue relay would normally run a single Altima fan on high no problem. The issue is that the engine bay will run really hot, which doesn't allow the relay to cool itself. Maybe consider mounting the relays in the wheel well, or in front of the radiator.
