obtain a copy of the rules. read them very carefully, like you're an attorney. then you'll know what you can and cannot do.
the rule book will explain which class you fall into that is where you start. when you read through the rules of that stock class then you can see what class you fall into when you decide that you want more from the car.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
