on stock rods, maybe.... Think about how an engine works, 4 strokes, intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust..

The intake stroke is the the only stroke where lateral load is place on the rod cap, and rod bolts. This is when the rod/piston is pulled down by the crankshaft, drawing in the uncombusted air/fuel mixture...

On the compression stroke, the crank rotates upwards, pushing up on the bearings and beam of the rods, which pushes up on the wrist pin and piston, pushing the piston upward to the top of the compression stroke... (TDC)

During the combustion/power stroke, all of the lateral load from combustion/horsepower/torque pushes down on the piston/wrist pin, which pushes down on the beam of the rod, and into the bearings and crank, until the completion of the stroke (BDC)...

And on the exhaust stroke, lateral force is again applied in an upward motion by the crankshaft, again placing the load on the rod beam, wrist pin, and piston, coming back to TDC expelling exhaust gasses and preparing the cylinder for the intake stroke imediately following....

In the grand scheme of things, the inertial loads really are not that much when compared to lateral loads, which as you can hopefully see are mostly placed on the beam of the rod, not the cap and bolts...
