Most of the aftermarket suppliers like ST do require drilling Im sure of this since Ive installed quite a few although they do have a newer kit out now that emulates the Comptech setup. If you use OEM then sure you can mount the brackets and get away from it. Just dont want someone going out to install a sway bar and find out he/she has to unexpectedly drill the subframe.
As for subframe rips it all depends on how much reinforcement you use and driving conditions. If you dont reinforce the area with washers and plates you will end up with a subframe tear since it is pretty thin there (Type-Rs are reinforced so Honda is aware of this).
Right now Im in a toss up between tossing some cash out for the Comptech setup (anti-roll bar attaches to lower tie bar so subframe rips will not occur) or just getting the subframe reinfoced. Robster how was Tito Chasiss work?
