If you don't need a 4X4, don't buy one. They cost more... and there are more moving parts to fail or break.

If you want to do any towing or driving in bad conditions, you may want a 4X4. Most 4 wheel drive systems can be shut off with a button or the smaller stick... or on the older trucks there are manually changeable at the hubs.
