If my memory serves me right honda came out with vtec in early 80s for there cbr model motorcycles. Hyper-tec or some shit. Vtec for there honda cars came late 80's. I believe the first vtec motor might of been the b16 or b18 that was put into the honda crx sir. Ford I have no clue when they started using their version of this type of system but they arent the only companies which have similar systems. Porche, toyota, mitsu, nissan and i think VW does too.
