Picture it: (says Estel Getty from Golden Girls) Tampa it was the year 2000 Saturday the 4th of November around midnight. Miami Subs had just cleared out so it was time for me to bounce out as well. I pulled through the grocery store in order to pull out onto D. Mabry at the light. As I do so the very essence of rice pulls in front of me - a white 94 Civic Coupe. It was complete with tail light covers poorly fitted body kit stock exhaust chrome rims
hydros neon lights and of course the requisite Supra wing...at first I thought it to be the genuine article but the H badges told me better.
Down the road we pulled up to a stop light side by side. I glanced over in time for me to see he lowered his front hydros in anticipation of the race that would surely follow. The light turns green and I ease my car off the line. The CRX had completed break in but was untuned. I pulled even with him and suddenly he trounced on it - the race was on!
I gingerly brought the revs to 5000rpm only going partial throttle. His little SOHC VTEC motor screams into high rpm mode pulling a half car behind me. I carefully shifted into 2nd at 5500rpm as his auto tranny glided his car into 2nd as well motor screaming away. Myself still at part throttle now a full car length ahead this race was over before it began. I backed off as the light ahead had just turned red - its time for some fresh little smokies!
This time he got serious and lowered the rear hydros and inch to ensure his rear suspension would have no travel no doubt. Denise advised I should not inflate his ego and to trounce him like a cat on a mouse. As the light turned green a light 2000rpm clutch slip induced some wheel slippage from myself as the Civic lurched forward. This time full throttle I hit the sweet spot and sling shotted forward instantly installing a 5 car lead. The MSD interupts the fun at 8500 so I bang second gear spinning wildly all the way through it and adding another 10 cars. His night was through his neon did him no good as defeat sunk in even a ricer flyby was too far away for him to do at this point.
My first hash mark with the new setup everybody sing along with me:
